poisoning wildlife
Pesticides are sprayed on crops to keep animals, insects, etc. away. If the plant is eaten the pesticide acts as a poisoning and poisons the wildlife. Burning fossil fuels is bad for the health of living things (and in addition is a cause of global warming).
