The two main tasks of the United Nations are "keeping the peace" and "protecting human rights" since this body was created to help ensure that there wouldn't be another World War II. 

The United Nations is a global intergovernmental organization in charge of preserving international peace and security, developing friendly relations between states, preventing and intervening in possible international conflicts, and bringing a resolution to achieve an acceptable solution for all parties in the eventual conflict, as well as the protection of human rights, as the purpose of all the above duties. It consists of several main bodies, such as the General Assembly, the Security Council,  International Court of Justice, Secretariat, Secretary-General. The two main tasks of the United Nations are: keeping the peace and protecting human rights.
