They live near the river even tho it floods there the soil is rich and makes it easy for them to grow food/crops and it is a good water source.

Answer:

Richer soil and easy fresh water access

Explanation:

Most houses that are built near rivers that flood areas are commonly elevated and thought to be flooded for a certain period of the year, so when the water comes the house will still be safe from the rising tides, the advantages that the soil has around rivers that flood is that the nutrients and minerals in the soil are re-stated with every flood season, so the land becomes fertile again and there´s fresh water near by to grow crops.
