Respuesta :

your thumb could bend in other ways and could be moved in a 360 degrees if it was a ball and joint, if it was a pivot it could only move in a straight line and not bend like we are used too, the thumbs are opposable so humans can grab things if a different joint is used it can have a harsh affect on the human structure and functions, a major consequence is that if this evolution happened suddenly now out technology could not comprehend with this evolution and we could lose our ability to use now day tools.

Answer:

The Thumb is among the part of the body which has a rare type of joint called the Saddle joint.

This joint allows movement within two planes as a result of its flexibility . The planar movement of the joint include flexion/extension and abduction/adduction.

If the thumb had a pivot joint then the thumb will be less flexible and only able to move in a rotary motion.

The thumb having a ball and socket joint will only aid movement in all directions and has a greater degree of movement when compared to other joints.

The consequences of having a different type of joint in the thumb include

  • Issues of dislocation as the thumb has its special properties and uses such as for work and having a different type of joint will make it prone to injuries.

  • The bones that are in the saddle joint ensure the back and forth movement of the thumbs and having a different type of joint may render the thumb docile

  • If the thumb had a ball and socket joint then it will be able to perform movement in all directions

  • A different type of joint may lead to individuals having offsprings having this type of condition.
