Short-term climate change are climate alterations that occur naturally. They are usually caused by volcanic eruptions, meteor impacts, and sunspot activity. Because of short-climate change, the adaptability and survival of most living organisms decreases.

Changes in the Wind and ocean currents is the major cause of short term climate change.

This is predominantly caused by the the oscillation between two conditions as listed below

  • El Niño condition
  • La Niña conditions

This cycle is referred to as ENSO (El Niño southern oscillation).

In El Niño condition, the trade winds change direction as well as the equatorial surface currents. This results in warm water to pool off of South America and stop rising toward the surface.

La Niña conditions refers to the normal condition usually experienced.
