John Paul said that because he wanted to show his independence and to show that he would not give up. He said this when he was at battle with a British ship and his ship was badly damaged.
i think he is saying there is more where that came from. or also if he did sum already but he was gonna do more and basically not done with whatever he is doing then he would just begin to fight.
