let the distance ran by Shana in a month be x miles. Given that the distance ran in a week which 6 miles is 1/3 the total distance ran in a month, then:
distance ran in that week will be:
1/3×x=6
our equation is:
1/3x=6
the total distance ran in a month, we solve for x above:
1/3x=6
multiply both sides by 3
3×1/3x=6×3
x=18 miles

hence the total distance ran in a month was 18 miles
