The Holy Roman Empire was a complex of territories in central and western Europe till it dissolved on August 6th, 1806 street being overtaken by the French and Napoleon Bonaparte. The French enlightenment writer, Voltaire, said that the Holy Roman Empire was neither holy, Roman, or an empire.

Why it wasn't an empire: It wasn't an empire, but instead a "multi-ethic complex of territories".

Why it wasn't holy:Voltaire, the enlightenment writer, exclaimed that it used to be holy, but if his day the faith was no more because of the 'Empire's' original religious raison d'être was no longer available...

Hope this helps! Have a nice night! ❤
