According to the law of superposition, The oldest layers are towards the bottom while the younger layers are towards the top.
According to the law of superposition which is the basic law of geo-chronology, in any undisturbed sequence of rocks deposited in layers, the youngest layer is on top and the oldest on bottom, each layer being younger than the one beneath it and older than the one above it.
So, the oldest layer is at the bottom and the youngest layer is at the top.
