The nurse is caring for a patient that has a nasogastric tube (ngt) on intermittent suction. the patient asks why they cannot have something to drink. what is the best response by the nurse?

Respuesta :

Again, please give the choices but if a patient with an NGT drinks a fluid (such as water) it will NOT cause Sodium retention, but depletion. The water will pull the electrolytes from the stomach and the NGT would suck the fluid and electrolytes.

Basically,
-Cause sodium depletion instead of retention
-electrolyte loss
