George Washington was chosen to lead the Continental Army.
Since Washington was a qualified and professional leader during the French and Indian Wars, they believed that he would make a terrific one for the Continental Army as well. Considering that he was given authority over such a weak and poor army, he somehow handled to force the British out of Boston in 1776 and soon closed the war by having victory at Yorktown in 1781.
