Glucose is consumed, and carbon dioxide is produced. Glycolysis is a sequence of reactions for the breakdown of glucose to two molecules of pyruvic acid (3-carbon molecule) under aerobic conditions; or lactate under aerobic conditions along with the production of small amount of energy. Cellular respiration is the process that takes in food and uses it to create ATP, a chemical which the cell uses for energy. The process uses oxygen and releases carbon dioxide.
