The Harlem Renaissance is cultural movement that emerged in the 1920s. and 1930s. Scholars agree that black- owned magazine and newspapers marked the the beginning of this time period. Specifically, two anthologies signaled the beginning of the Harlem Renaissance. James Weldon Johnson's "The Book of Negro Poetry"and Alain Locke's "The New Negro" were given this credit.
