Answer: When I get really well, John says we will ask Cousin Henry and Julia down for a long visit; but he says he would as soon put fireworks in my pillow-case as to let me have those stimulating people about now.
The sentence is contradictory. The author starts by saying that John has told her that he will invite Cousin Henry and Julia for a long visit once she gets better. However, she goes on to say that he also claims he hates the idea, and that he would sooner put fireworks in her pillow than invite those people. The speaker does not seem to acknowledge the contradiction, which shows that the information she is giving us is flawed, and suggest the narrator is prone to hallucinations.
