How do you Greet formally in Spanish?
When two people meet and go to greet each other but they do not know each other well, or one of them is superior in rank or age than the other, the most usual thing is that they use some of the forms of formal greeting, which are expressed below:
- Buenos días: Good morning
- Buenas tardes: Good afternoon
- Buenas noches: Good evening
These forms of greeting make direct reference to the time of day in which they are, so that would be the reason why they are used.
