The idea of meeting his grandchildren is that he is committed to keeping nnaemeka out of his life. Nene Atang in "marriage is a private affair" is described as perseverant because as time passed, she became friends with her prejudice.
In "Marriage is a Private Affair," Nnaemeka's father, Okeke, at first resist the idea of meeting his grandchildren as he has committed to keep Nnaemeka out of his life.
In the story "Marriage is a Private Affair," Nnaemeka loved Nene and wanted to marry her. Okeke was against the marriage as Nene belonged to a different tribe. Okeke wanted his son to marry the girl of the same tribe in order to get acceptance from the society. Since he was one of the renowned people in his village, he didn't want his son to commit to anything which would turn his position in front of the village. Okeke decided to keep a distance from his son Nnaemeka as he went against his father's wish. Even when Okeke heard that he have grandchildren, he denied meeting the couple and the children. He wanted to keep a distance from them.
