the attachment shows Homologous chromosome pairs. this pairs comes one from each parent. they are similar in length, gene position and location of centromere as well. the common or basic example of this kin of chromosome is the X and Y chromosome. the X is from the mother, while the Y chromosome is from the Father. this is through the process of meiosis.  the two chromosomes are aligning towards or next to each other by another process which is what we call synapsis. The result  is a  tetrad (Bivalent Homologous Pair). Since the pairs are aligning by or during the Metaphase I, gamete will reach to any  possible sequence of chromoso from the parent.
