The Seven Years War, also known as the French and Indian War, was one that had a severe negative impact on the British. Even though they won the war and gained territory from the French in North America, they accumulated a large amount of debt.
In order to repay the debt, the British government started to tax the American colonists. They felt that this was fair, as the British military was the one that protected the colonists from the French army. However, American colonists were furious that these taxes were passed without their consent. The effects of the Seven Years War help to spark the American Revolution.
