Long was a Louisiana politician who was in favor of a redistributing wealth in American society in order to close the gap between the different socio-economic classes. Even though he initially supported FDR, by 1933 he was very much against his policies. He felt that FDR's New Deal only helped elites and was not doing enough for the common citizen. His goal was to ultimate challenge Roosevelt in the election of 1936 but he was killed before he had the opportunity to run.
