This is debatable even among the highest scholars. The United states are not an imperial power in the sense that they occupy and control foreign territory as if they were colonies, not counting wars. They could be understood as an imperialistic force through the political power that they have over numerous other countries worldwide which enables them to control their politics.
The middle eastern situation can be seen as an example of United States imperialism since they rarely leave the state in whose wars they got involved in. Culturally and economically it has almost imperialistic control over many European countries since many of them would not have the power in Europe that they have if they didn't have the support of US behind them. For example, if a country bothered US, they could just get NATO and the UN to help in resolving the problems that they have, which could be interpreted that through such organizations the US can control world politics because of its power.
