A neutralization reaction is a reaction in which an acid reacts with a base to
form salt and water only.
The salt produced in this neutralization reaction as follows.
HNO3 + KOH > H2O + KNO3
HNO3 + Ca(OH)2 > H2O + Ca(NO3)2
HCl +Ca(OH)2 > H2O + CaCl2
HCl + KOH > H2O + KCl.
Here acids of nitrate and chloride react with hydroxides and our product is
chloride and nitrate salt and water only.

The salts produced are:

1. KNO₃

2. Ca (NO₃)₂

3. CaCl₂

4. KCl

Further explanation

The neutralization reaction is one acid-base reaction. It is said neutralization because the reaction results obtained H₂O water which is neutral

In this reaction obtained salt which is dependent on the acid and the bases. Salt that occurs is produced from cations of bases and anions of acids

There are 4 types of neutralization or salt formation reactions that may occur, namely:

  • 1. strong acids and bases
  • 2. Weak acids and strong bases
  • 3. strong acids and weak bases
  • 4. Weak acids and weak bases

In the reaction above we use the principle that already exists, that is the salt formed comes from base cations and acid anions

1.HNO₃ (aq) + KOH (aq) → H₂O (l) + KNO₃ (aq), the salt is: KNO₃

2.2HNO₃ (aq) + Ca (OH)₂ (aq) → 2H₂O (l) + Ca(NO₃)₂ (aq),the salt is: Ca(NO₃)₂

2HCl (aq) + Ca(OH)₂ (aq) → 2H₂O (l) + CaCl₂ (aq),the salt is:CaCl₂

HCl (aq) + KOH (aq) → H₂O (l) + KCl (aq),the salt is KCl
