Dr. David Livingstone was a medical missionary who traveled to inland Africa in order to introduce Christianity and understand slavery among the indigenous peoples. He made various travels across southern and central Africa, giving many insight to the African inland that was unknown to the outside world at the time. At one point, he lost contact and 'disappeared'. Henry Morton Stanley, a journalist was sent to locate him by the New York Herald in 1869. He found him in Tanzania, and from there on fascination with the African continent reached new heights.
