The distance formula can be used to prove a triangle has congruent sides if the triangle in question is placed on a coordinate plane. On a graph, the coordinate points of the three points of the triangle can be found. Then, the distance formula can be utilized to find the distance between each of the three points. The distance between the points will yield the length of the side, allowing for comparison of the three sides to see if they are similar lengths, or congruent.
