Can you help me with a Chemistry question? I will give a medal and become a fan of the person with the BEST answer

Which of the following elements is most likely to form an ion that will then form an ionic bond with an ion of a Group 1A element?
A) Pt
B) I
C) Fr
D)Be,

Respuesta :

The answer is I (Iodine). As Iodine is a halogen (Group VII), it really wants to complete its orbital shell, and a group 1A element provides a single free electron that would form a very strong bond (as they are on opposite sides of the periodic table). The other answers are two metals, which doesn't fit, and the other is another Group 1A element which is strongly reactive by nature of its higher period.
