Explain whether President Truman and the United States were justified in using the atomic bomb to force Japan to surrender. In your response, write two to three paragraphs that include details and evidence from the lesson and the readings.

Respuesta :

At the time and situation of the direction of the Pacific War, the dropping of the atomic bombs is justifiable. The United States had pushed the Japanese back to their archipelago. The US had the option of either dropping nuclear weapons or invading the Japanese mainland. An amphibious invasion was calculated to include over 1 million American casualties with even more Japanese casualties, including nationwide destruction of cities and landscape. Considering that Japanese nation is made up of thousands of different islands (with the vast majority being on the four largest islands) and the Japanese military doctrine including fighting to the death with surrender a dishonorable option, an invasion was too costly. Dropping the bombs on Hiroshima in Nagasaki should be considered the least costly option, as both cities have made a dramatic recovery over time compared to what an amphibious invasion would have resulted in.

Answer:

President Truman, the US president was given the choice to either drop the Atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki or not to based on the information scientists have given him and how much damage it does so that he knows where the best place to drop them were. He chose to drop the bombs in places where there are large variety of citizens and resource suppliers, which were compatible with the Capital of Hiroshima and the city of Nagasaki. Some historians have said that the Japanese were already ready to surrender without the use of the Atomic bomb, and that President Truman might have been wrong by choosing to drop an Atomic bomb to make them surrender. By dropping the bombs, the number of casualties in Japan has become a huge number with millions of casualties and wounded citizens, and a very high death rate. In the war, US was exceeding in their attacks, which made the use of an Atomic bomb unnecessary. If the Atomic bomb was not used, the number of casualties would have been much less and Japan would have still surrendered since it knew it was not able to win the war.

The other guy’s answer was the sample response, and I got a bad mark because of so.
