Encouraged empowerment--many African Americans felt the non-violent approach was not working and required them to suppress their culture.
The Black Power movement encouraged blacks to accept their culture and embrace who they were as people instead of bending to the will of white culture and tactics. It allowed for blacks to fight back against the violence that was being used against them.
