Sprinting is a sport that requires an explosion of energy more than endurance. the best type of muscle fibers for this activity would be

Respuesta :

Sprinting is running over a short distance in a limited period of time. It requires coordinated efforts from all of the major muscles in your lower body. During sprinting, there is a compound movement, a movement occurring in different joints. When a person sprints, the legs handle the activity in the hips, knee and ankle joints. Takeoff and recovery are two phases of sprinting movement. The takeoff phase happens when you push off the ground and straighten your leg with hip, knee and ankle explosion. Lower body joints extends fully driving force into the running surface, propelling you forward. Recovery phase happens following each takeoff phase where hip joint flexes, picking up your leg and knee bringing knee to your chest. Sprinting targets six muscle groups: hamstrings, quadriceps, gluteus maximus, hip flexors, abdominals and calves. Skeletal muscle, moreover, has three types of muscle fiber. Type I, or the slow-twitch fibers, are for less explosive, sustained movements. They do not contract forcefully, thus require less energy to fire. Type IIa are intermediate fibers and are blends of both slow- and fast-twitch fibers. Type IIx, on the other hand, are fast-twitch muscle fibers responsible for fast, explosive movements such as sprinting. However, type IIx muscle fibers lack the endurance of slow-twitch fibers and can only be used for a short period of time.

The skeletal muscles are targeted during a sprint. The slow twitch fibers, the intermediate fibers and the fast twitch fibers are the three fibers that are targeted during a sprint.

Further Explanation:

The running through a short distance within a defined period is known as sprinting. Sprinting is generally performed in races to quickly reach a goal or target. Sprinting is usually done over short distances.

The slow twitch muscles contract slowly but are functional for a longer time while the fast twitch muscles contract quickly and get tired very rapidly.

The muscles that are majorly used in during sprinting are:

Hamstrings: Present on the back of the leg, this muscle group contains biceps femoris, semitendinosus and semimembranosus. Hamstrings are the fast twitch muscles which enables us to execute powerful movements.

Calf muscles: These muscles are present on the calves an important for bending the knee while pushing the ground wise sprinting.

Abdominal muscles: These are present in the abdomen and functional in maintaining a stable body posture and maintaining excess movement during sprinting.

Thus, the skeletal muscles are targeted during a sprint. The slow twitch fibers, the intermediate fibers and the fast twitch fibers are the three fibers that are targeted during a sprint.
