Steps to determine presence of pb+2 ions are -
pb+2 is identified either by precipitation of PbS from an acid solution with hydrogen sulfide or thioacetamide. It can also be identified by precipitating the insoluble PbCl₂ by action of HCL on an soluble Pb+2 salt solution, or better still as the yellow PbCr0₄.

The steps to determine presence of Pb²⁺ ions, will done by using the aqueous solutions of potassium iodide, Sodium hydroxide and hydrogen chloride.

What is qualitative analysis?

Qualitative analysis of any species will gives idea about the non numerical qualitative information of spcies present in any chemical reaction.

Following methods will we use to identify the presence of Pb²⁺ ion:

  • If in the solution already Pb²⁺ ion is present and then we add potassium iodide aqueous solution then we get the dark yellow color precipitate of lead iodide and potassium ion.

                          Pb²⁺(aq) + KI(aq) → PbI₂(s) + K⁺(aq)

  • If in any solution already Pb²⁺ ion is present and then we add Sodium hydroxide aqueous solution then we get the white color precipitate of lead hydroxide and sodium ion.

                   Pb²⁺(aq) + NaOH(aq) → Pb(OH)₂(s) + Na⁺(aq)

  • If in any solution already Pb²⁺ ion is present and then we add hydrogen chloride aqueous solution then we get the white color precipitate of lead chloride and H⁺ ion.

                       Pb²⁺(aq) + HCl(aq) → PbCl₂(s) + H⁺(aq)

Hence, from the above equation we can identifly the presence of Pb²⁺.
