The science of classifying living things is called taxonomy. In the taxonomy organisms are grouped on the basis of their characteristics, phyogenetic relation and history of evolution. Taxonomy is a part of systematics which provides description, identification, nomenclature and classification. Thus, taxonomy is the science of classification.
