The silver nitrate will simply just dissolve in the water BUT if you have any kind of chemicals in the water it can potentially cause a reaction to occur.
If you mix AgNO3 with distilled water you have a solution of AgNO3. The AgNO3 is very soluble in water. But if you use drinking water, it has chlorides, and then will precipitate AgCl (white salt, not soluble in water) Good luck! M.
