It was Jean-Betrand Aristide. He was elected President of Haiti in 1991
until he was ousted from power due to a military coup. He
was returned to power after US threatened the use of force and the coup regime
was dismantled. He ruled from 1994 to 1996 and from 2001 to 2004. He was again
ousted from power in 2004 coup that involved one of his soldiers. He charged the United
States of organizing the coup d'état against him with help from Jamaican Priminister P.J. Patterson and other supporters. Aristide was forced to go to the Central African Republic and South Africa. After seven years in exile, Aristide once again
returned to Haiti in 2011.
