The US passed five different neutrality laws in order to maintain their foreign policy of isolationism during the 1930's.
During the 1930's America was suffering tremendously. Thanks to the Stock Market Crash of 1929 and other factors, America had entered into the Great Depression during the 1930's. With this in mind, it is easy to understand why many American citizens wanted to adopt the policy of isolationism.
They believed that the American government shouldn't be involved in foreign affairs since the unemployment rate was so high in America. Instead, citizens wanted the federal government to focus on implementing laws and programs that would help America recover from this economic depression.
