Answer:

The treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was signed on Feb 2, 1848. This treaty ended the Mexican-American war, with the signing of the treaty Mexico gave up the claims to Texas and recognized the Rio Grande as the USA's southern boundary. The treaty got its name from the Villa de Guadalupe Hidalgo which was a neighborhood of Mexico City. The treaty also gave the US the ownership of California along with Arizona, Nevada, Utah, and Colorado. In the senate the treaty was opposed by the Whigs, they were also opposed to  Manifest destiny.
