The answer is English and Scottish Protestant settlers. This occurred during the Irish Rebellion of
1641 where many Irish landowners lost their lands to incoming English and
Scottish settlers. They resented how their
lands were taken from them that later led to a rebellion. The causes of the rebellion were lost of
lands to the plantations of the new settlers, differences in religion,
conspiracy between King Charles I and the Irish and finally poor economic
conditions that left many poor in Ireland.
It resulted in the establishment of the Irish Confederation and the
start of the Confederate Wars. Wars
continued until it was stopped by Oliver Cromwell’s new Model Army.
