Under the Truman Doctrine, President Harry S. Truman determined that the United States would offer political, military and economic support to all democratic countries that are being threatened from authoritarian forces either external or internal. The Truman Doctrine effectively remodeled U.S. foreign policy, away from its usual posture of withdrawal from regional conflicts not directly including the United States to one of probable intervention in far way conflicts. This was due to the start of the Cold War between the U.S. and then U.S.S.R.  where the U.S. was determined to stop the spread of Communism.
