3. If Earth was 10 times farther away from the sun than it is now, which planet would it be closest to? (Assume all the planets are aligned with the sun and are on the same side of the sun.) Compare Earth's new distance to that planet. How far apart would they be in standard notation? How far apart in scientific notation? Show your work.

AL2006

Real distance of Earth from Sun . . . 93 million miles
                                                 =  1 AU (Astronomical Unit)

10 times farther . . . . . 930 million miles  =  10 AU

Compare:

==>  Saturn . . .  9.5 AU
==>  Uranus. .  19.2 AU

If Earth were 10 times farther from the sun than we really are,
then our planet would be just barely past Saturn ... about 10%
of the way from Saturn to Uranus.

Answer:

Your answer would be that it is closest to Saturn

Hope this helps all FLVS peeps!
