The increase or decrease in the volume of the lung in relation to the pressure of the air inside it follows one of the gas laws propounded by Robert Boyle. According to him, the pressure of a given gas is inversely proportional to its volume given that the temperature is constant.
As the volume of the lung increases, the air molecules in the lung become farther apart and collide with one another less often, leading to a decrease in the pressure generated.
