Transported sediments are usually deposited at places that are low and flat. This is the case for the two most common ways of deposition of sediments. When from the highlands sediments come down with the water from the rain and the deposition is taking place at the edge of the valley below the hill/mountain. When the rivers transport sediments and the deposition takes place on the banks when the rivers are slowing down while passing in the valley, and where the river flows into a lake/sea/ocean.
