When water changes form the molecules are the ones most responsible. When water molecules get hot, the molecules expand. Or they spread out, moving quickly. When they cool they become compact. When temperatures reach 32F or 0C water becomes solid because the molecules come close together and stop moving. Because there is no movement you can't run your fingers through the molecules, it's a solid.
They speed up and move farther apart, this is as it heats up. hope this helped :3
