Cell Phone Company A charges $20 each month plus $0.03 per text. Cell Phone Company B charges $5 each month plus $0.07 per text.

So our equation would be 0.03x + 20 = 0.07x + 5, since we're trying to find the equal number of texts.

First, subtract the lesser x value, 0.03 on both sides so then the equation would be 20 = 0.04x + 5 

Subtract 5 from both sides and you get 16 = 0.04x.

In order to get x by itself, we have to dived 0.04 on both sides and that leaves us with x = 500, which means that it would take 500 texts to make the companies equal
