You first need to purchase a FQDN (fully qualified domain name) from a company who sells out domain names. GoDaddy is a very popular retailer. Once you purchase your FQDN, you need to come up with a way to host your site via a web server. This can either be done through a third party or yourself (which I don't recommend if you want to create a high traffic site). After that, it's all a matter of being able to FTP into your server and upload your source files as needed.
