Conflict is happens when either one of the individuals wants to achieve the same goal. There are typically three types of conflict: intrapersonal conflict, interpersonal and unconscious conflict. Under Intrapersonal are Approach-approach conflict, Avoidance-avoidance conflict and Approach-avoidance conflict as described in your question. This will further the interpersonal conflict because in this, it comprises the actual ‘facing’ of the problems (avoidance), lessens equality among members (competition) and choosing the lesser evil (compromising decisions). This will create further misunderstandings if it will not be explained well thoroughly among individuals.

Avoiding conflict attitudes and behavior will be ineffective when dealing with interpersonal conflict because it does not present a potential solution to solve the source of conflict.

In case there are certain confusions as to determine the nature of the conflict, it is always advisable to talk to a friend or a close relation, to gain a clear perspective of the causes and nature of the conflict. However, in the end, it is advisable to gain individual insight and solve problems according to that.
