Writers should take a break between writing the first draft and revising to really gather their thoughts and put themselves in a reader’s shoes rather than a writer’s shoes

That makes sense to take breaks in between because it freshens your mind, when you're working on something important you take breaks right? It's the same thing with writers. Once you write your first draft, then you need to be mentally prepared to revise it. If you're tired, you might miss some minor mistakes while revising :D
