The South wanted to expand it's slave territory and knew that if the current conditions were kept, they would eventually be out numbered by non slave states it was sort of an existential crisis for slavery so they got uppity and when Lincoln was elected it was the last straw for thwm
The people living in the South were all in for slavery. They owned many slaves and did not want it to be abolished. They broke off from the United States and formed the Confederate Army. This caused the Civil War. They were fighting for slavery to remain as it was. When they lost and Abraham Lincoln was elected, the U.S. was reunited but were upset that they had lost so many soldiers AND lost the right to own slaves when Lincoln abolished it.
