Hawaiian feather helmet, mahiole in the Hawaiian language represents a particular moment, the very beginnings of European contact with Hawaii.
The helmet is covered in feathers. The top of it looks like a mohawk, it has got red feathers, and the very top is covered with yellow ones (observe the attached picture). The base of the helmet is orange.
The helmets are constructed on a basket type construction. Feathers for the helmet are obtained from local birds. In some exceptions, human hair has also been used. This material is really valuable for the Hawaiian culture.
