Respuesta :
At least three seismograph stations are needed to locate the epicenter of a earthquake.
Further Explanation:
An earthquake occurs when two region of the earth slip past each other. Fault plane is the area where the slip occurs. Hypocenter is the region below the earth’s surface where earthquake starts while the epicenter is the region above it.
The earth consists of four major layer:
1. Inner core
2. Outer core
3. Mantle
4. Crust
Seismographs is an instrument used to record the earthquake. The recording done by this instrument is called as the seismograms.
The seismograph comprises of:
1. A base: is fixed tightly in the ground
2. Heavy weight: hangs freely
When the earthquake occurs, the ground shakes and in turn the seismograph also shakes while the hanging weight does not shakes. During the earthquake, the difference in the location between the shaking piece and the motionless piece is recorded. Magnitude of the earthquake is recorded as one for each earthquake. The magnitude of earthquake is measured by the Richter scale but is more commonly measured through moment magnitude scale.
