The central government agency in charge of providing news on the war was OWI (which stands for the office of war information). The OWI was an American government agency, which used broadcasts, newspapers, films and other forms of mass media with the purpose of communicating to the civilian communities the latest news from the battlefront.

This agency operated between 1942 and 1945. Besides having its headquarters in the U.S.A., the office established several overseas branches, which was pretty useful in order to launch in a large-scale propaganda campaign abroad.
