When events are independent the probability of one does not depend on the other.
Here the probability of liking peas overall is 39%, but the probability of liking peas if you're male is 42%. That is, the probabilities are not the same, so the events are dependent.

Selections B and C are both "Dependent," so are correct in that aspect. However, the "reason" given for B has a bogus number (54%) for males liking peas. We have no idea where that number came from. C has the correct reason, so is the appropriate selection.
