First get slope

(4,-1) and (-2,3)

slope is

diff in y        4

---------- =    ---- = -2/3

diff in x       -6

use a point (-2, 3) and y - y1=M(x - x1)

y - 3= -2/3(x + 2)

y - 3= -2/3x - 4/3

 + 3              +3

    y = -2/3x - 4/3 + 9/3  (3 is 9/3)

     y = -2/3x + 5/3

y = mx + b

m = rise/run

y2-y1/x2-x1

(-1-3)/(4-(-2)

m = -4/6

m = -(2/3)

y = (-2/3)x + b
Pick a point and substitute the values
I used the point (4,-1)

-1 = (-2/3)(4) + b
-1 = -8/3 + b
-3 = -8 + 3b
5 = 3b
5/3 = b

To test I’m going to use a different point on the line

(-2,3)

3 = (-2/3)(-2) + (5/3)
3 = 4/3 + 5/3
3 = 3

the answer is y = (-2/3)x + (5/3)
