Trust. One word, for this answer. Once trust has been broken,  it is impossible to gain back.

Answer:

Childhood can affect people's responses to love and romantic relationships in later years in negative ways.  Based on the text, "Basically, love is scary when it contrasts with childhood trauma. In that situation, the beloved feels compelled to act in ways that hurt the lover: behaving in a punitive manner, distancing themselves and pushing love away", shows how people can feel forced to act in ways to hurt people they love in a harsh manner because of childhood trauma. Based on the text, "Ironically, close moments with a partner can activate memories of painful childhood experiences, fears of abandonment and feelings of loneliness from the past. People are afraid of being hurt in the same ways they were hurt as children", shows how when people are shown love, they could start having negative emotions from remembering their past and they start to fear of being hurt again. Childhood experiences can still have a huge impact on people and it makes it difficult for them to accept love. Being loved is too much for them to experience because they are afraid of getting hurt. The fear gets to them and they have a hard time accepting love.
